I’ve been really proud of my progress so far, I’m getting stronger, fitter and leaner. My tummy has been the hardest part though… It’s taken me over 8 months to get my core strength close to what it was before I got pregnant. Up until recently it has felt like my belly was pushing “out” (like it had a mind of it’s own haha ?). It was really hard to keep it “in”. While you’re pregnant your abs are stretched out quite a lot and they get used to being that way (your organs also move around), so when you have your baby they don’t just snap back in. It takes deliberate effort every day to get them back to “normal”. I managed to close my 3 finger width ab separation pretty quickly because I worked on closing the gap from the day after I gave birth. The main things that helped was being conscious of my posture while standing and walking around and working on activating my deep core muscles and pelvic floor. I focused on standing tall, having shoulders back, stomach tight, pelvic floor “on” and gluts slightly squeezed and “active” while walking. A lot of people have not only a weak core but weak gluts too so it’s about training those muscles to fire properly so your muscles are balanced. Having good posture is so important and it’s something I think everyone should be conscious of. There’s not much point doing ab specific exercises if you don’t fix your posture first (and of course any ab separation you may have). ? Do any of you remember getting told to stand up straight and to pull your shoulder back when you were a kid? They were onto something! ??? . #8.5monthspostpartum
